"όρνιθες" - "birds" by Aristophanes

"όρνιθες" or "birds" is a comedy written by Aristophanes in 414 BC, one of his best known works. I did all the videos projected on stage for the 2012 version of the play, directed by Giannis Kakleas. A fantastic play, trully timeless. It's about two athenians who are sick of the way of life in the big modern city (Athens of 414BC in the original) and decide to look for some other place to live, a place where everything is driven by love, respect and honor. Their quest takes them to the world of the birds, and eventually the two men decide to build a new city there, where they, and the birds, can live in perfect harmony with the universe.
The following clip is from our second show at the Herod Atticus theatre, right under the acropolis, August 27th, 2012.

This was a travelling show, it went all over Greece. One of the most prestigious stops, was at the open air ancient theatre of Epidavros. We had two shows scheduled there, and the first went great. The second was cancelled. The official reason for the cancellation, was, heavy rain. The truth is, since it had stopped raining a good two hours before curtain time, that the people responsible did absolutely nothing to protect this two and a half thousand year old jewel. This is what we saw when we went up to the theatre that evening after the rain...

Here's a clip from backstage at Epidavros. The cast are rehearsing one of the songs they sing live in the show, called "φίλτατε μου ανθρωπάκο" or "my dearest little man". In the story, the birds sing this song to one of the two main characters, a little man who has just presented them with a big idea.
